Empowering other women in your life is very important.
When you empower, collaborate and support other women great things happen in both your life and career. For a long time, women were breaking glass ceilings and making great strides in their business and personal worlds. I think within the last year we have seen things happen that has slowed women down. It hasn’t stopped us because let’s be honest we can be like freight trains when we set our sites on something but we have run into some obstacles in the world.
So many people think women are only catty and can’t work together. Yes there are plenty of women competing with each other and yes we can definitely be catty but for the most part, many ladies I have met want to collaborate, empower and grow with other women. They want to conquer the world or at least their small area.
There are plenty of great men with great ideas out there but this post is for the ladies. There is something about being able to collaborate with other women who do what you do that men can’t compete with. If you work in the corporate world it’s not about being better than men.
It’s about speaking up and letting your work shine and showing what you can do. It’s about supporting your female counterparts. It is about taking credit for fantastic work that you do and not shying away from making it known that you did it. Let your strengths shine so you are recognized for what you do. The only way to get equality (or at least recognized and move towards equality) in the workplace is to support each other.
If you own your own business, whether virtual or store front, find other women to support you. Make sure you have other women you can support as well. Collaborate on projects together. Refer women for products and services when you know they do a great job. They will, in turn, refer you too. You will make great friends, find a great tribe of people you can bounce business ideas off of and just grow your businesses together. Your accomplishment becomes something for the whole group to cheer and your fails become something everyone can learn from and support you during. Be genuine in your support and you will receive it back ten fold.
The next time you need to hire a business coach, accountant, web site consultant, business manager etc ask your female friends if they know someone they can recommend. The next time you need to buy new jewelry or carry all bag for your kids or plan a special event, see if there is a woman you can empower in your neighborhood. Who knows…the next women you support may not have the confidence to do what she dreams of doing until you come around and give her the support she needs. Only good can come from empowering other women. It ends up being good for you, for your community and for your family.
